At the start of February 2021, in the middle of the meme-stock frenzy, groups of retail traders openly coordinated to pump XRP, a token already under an active SEC lawsuit. Price spiked violently, then unwound almost as fast: this window opens near $0.50, tags $0.76 intraday, and closes around $0.40 — a fall of roughly twenty percent over the session, despite the fifty percent spike inside it.
The window is brutal because both directions punish you. Shorting the spike early means being run over by a move with no fundamental ceiling; buying the breakout means holding a position whose only support was a message board's attention span. The reversal comes fast and gives almost no time to exit at a good price.
Same engine, same hidden right-hand side — a different day's problem.
